Vacancy information

As Senior Naval Architect, you are responsible for the technical integrity, feasibility, and regulatory compliance of superyacht designs. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you work closely with Project Management, Engineering, and Production teams, while coordinating approvals with classification societies and flag administrations.

Your responsibilities:

  • Safeguard technical quality, feasibility, and consistency of superyacht designs
  • Act as the primary technical contact for naval architecture topics, including on-site support
  • Coordinate and manage external naval architecture partners and their deliverables
  • Review and verify calculations and technical packages prepared externally, ensuring alignment with shipyard standards, project requirements, and regulations (without performing detailed calculations in-house)
  • Interpret flag state regulations, international codes, and class requirements, translating them into practical, buildable solutions
  • Manage communication with classification societies and flag administrations
  • Identify regulatory and compliance risks early and take corrective ownership
  • Support surveys, approvals, and certification processes throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams, the yard, and external stakeholders
  • Own the weight monitoring process and perform inclining tests
  • Provide technical input for dock plans, launching, and transport operations
  • Mentor junior naval architects and collaborate across disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions

What do you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or Naval Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in yacht or shipbuilding
  • Strong knowledge of superyacht regulations, international codes, and classification standards
  • Experience with the REG Yacht Code is a strong advantage
  • Proven experience with large yachts and/or commercial vessels
  • Hands-on experience working directly with classification societies and flag administrations
  • Solid understanding of yacht production processes and shipyard constraints
  • Strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take clear ownership
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Preferably based in the Netherlands
