Senior Naval Architect

Vacancy information

As a Senior Naval Architect, you will work together with your colleagues on the design and development of complex maritime projects, such as FPSO conversions, and integrated vessel systems. You will be responsible for translating technical requirements into innovative and feasible concepts, taking ownership of both concept and basic design phases.

Your work will include performing key naval architecture calculations such as stability, resistance, propulsion, weight management, and motion analysis. You will provide technical advice to clients worldwide, including defence organisations, supporting them in making well-informed engineering decisions.

You will be part of a team of approximately 18 naval architects, working closely with specialists from various disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. Depending on the project, you may lead a small team of engineers or act as a senior specialist within multidisciplinary project teams.

Specific duties in this role include:

  • Translating client requirements into concept and basic naval designs.
  • Performing naval architecture calculations, including stability, resistance, propulsion, motions, and weight estimations.
  • Developing and validating design solutions for complex maritime systems and vessels.
  • Providing technical advice and consultancy to clients and stakeholders.
  • Leading or supporting small project teams (2–4 engineers) in design activities.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior naval architects, supporting their technical development.

What do you need

  • BSc or MSc in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in naval architecture and engineering calculations.
  • Experience with stability, resistance, propulsion, and seakeeping analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and within teams.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Experience with tools such as NAPA, Hydrostar, or Ansys Aqwa is an advantage.
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB) are considered a plus.
